Dear Groningen gang,
On behalf of the (kicked out) president, Hon. Tauqeer bhai and yours truly, I welcome you all to a new way of sharing our views on trivial (mostly) and non-trivial things (rarely) in the world around us. I hope that each one of us will continue to play the same "roles" they have skilfully donned on Friday evenings during the past two years.
Despite what we would like to think, evolution is purposeless and so is our blog. Who knows what might evolve out of it.
Regards,
Jyothi
Good finally we have our blog space. Well done Jyothi.

ReplyDeleteEvolution definitely is purposeless, but it none the less has a direction; at least locally in time. The direction depends on the environment and since environments remain constant for significant periods of time, evolution has a direction for significant periods of time. Every once in a while however major changes in the environment cause major changes in the direction of evolution.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning people...... WAKA WAKA :))))))))
ReplyDelete@Harsh: Agree with you about evolution being purposeless, but its not necessary that it has to be in specific direction...in that sense you are defining the path for it...which is not true, I think so. Again how can you say that environment remain constant..as it is known that after every 3 secs or so there is a drastic change in the environmental conditions. So in that sense evolution can not have direction in a specifc way even for significant period of time. And i think again your last statement is in contradiction to your's previous statements.

ReplyDeleteYesterday I had this weird thought about evolution and present world. I think evolution inherently involves adaptation to our surroundings. If being corrupted is a way to compete with everyone, isn't being corrupted is an evolutionary choice (smart choice)? Why do we bother about morals, good/bad when making a smart choice. In my opinion evolution is neither purposeless nor directionless as long as we mathematicians (not biologists) control the evolution :D.
